Here is my rough draft of my topic 'Why don't recent young people date?' This is rough draft, so there is some mistakes and wrong expressions, but please just read it. The picture is one of advertisement of Japanese drama, 'The reason why I cannot fall in love(私が恋愛できない理由), which shows us that the real situation of love. These days, 'aging society' and 'low birth rate' are big problems in Japan, and even in every developed country. There are some reasons caused the problem, but one of reasons might be 'low rate of dating among students'. I saw some media reported that 30% of Japanese young people don't have the significant other now. Why they don't have interests in love and don't find somebody? Here, I will show you some elements which might make the young think so. <Japanese Magazine's opinion> Our generation is called 'eco-friendly love generation', because more than 65% women and 70% men don't have the significant other in 2011, according to Japanese famous magazine, Jyosei Seven(女性セブン). 1)When Japan was in babble economy in 1990s, many people wanted exciting love, which means make them really hot. On the other hand, now people have become less passionate than the past, which means they don't want hot and exhausting love. 2) Moreover, boys have been modest, called 'Vegitalian boys (草食男子)', and they are not struggle to find somebody, so there are little chances for the young to meet someone. 3) Another reason is that they usually feel comfortable with same sex friends, not opposite sex friends. Recently, 'girls meeting(女子会)', share house with friends and so on are popular because it is release to share the time with close friends. Some people tend to think it is trouble some to be with the significant other. 4) Even more, it is one of the recent trend that there are no border between girls and boys, so they make friends no matter what they are girls or boys. To conclude, that is one of the trend that being friends is better than dating. Friends is the best relationship ever. <Professor's opinion> 1) According to the writer, the recent young people have a shallow friendship, which means there are no clear differences between boys and girls. In the past, boys were more masculine and girls were more feminine. Today, we cannot say 'because you are a boy/girl' because there are some girls who talk the way usually men use, and some boys who too much care about their hairstyle or something. We can say that girls have become masculine, and boys have become feminine. That's one of the causes which started to call 'Vegetarian boys' and 'predatory girls'. The writer worries that the culture of 'hot guys' and 'modest ladies' might be collapsed... 2) These days, it is more important to have the communication skill, but it is said that many young people are lack of it and that is one of reasons of not dating. They don't know how to communicate with boys or girls, so there is no chance to meet somebody. 3) Due to animation, being alone is not so sad or boring, so there is no need to be with somebody. Nowadays, animation is so popular that some application gives us games of falling in love with animation characters. With those anime or games, they don't need actual people, but enough with virtual 'significant other'. 4) Relationship is shallow, so some people don't date but 'have a relationship' only. Compared to the past, there might be less negative feeling to have a sexual relationship with non-significant other. <One person's opinion from BLOGOS> I found that an interesting news post from BLOGOS, which says the biggest reason why recent young generation doesn't meet somebody is shortage of money. First of all, look at the picture billow. The picture on the left side shows that how much money students can use in a day. Obviously, it has been decreasing and students today cannot use so much money compared with students in the past. Then, look at the picture on the right side. This shows the fee of entering Tokyo Disney land. It is clear that the fee today is the highest in this 30 years. Therefore, they don't have enough money to go there which is one of the most popular spots for dating in Japan. If they can work as a part time job, there might be room for dating with somebody, but nowadays, because of strict education system, which means professor's don't give credits so easily compared to the past, so there is little time to work. This situation leads that it is hard for recent students to meet someone. Of course there was a problem of shortage of money in the past as well, but present situation is worse. RQ

Then, this week, I'll forcus on more specific topic related to love ; 'Love and Friendship' I mean, the difference between them and how we can tell love from friendship, with some websites. Therefore, those should be professional opinions, unlike last week. First of all, I found a website which says about the differences of love and friendship. This site is cute with some paintings which help us understand. Here is the site. <What you feel> 1. If you are just friends, you can be happy when he (suppose the friend is a boy) tells you that he met a really cute girl and he likes her. Mere friends can celebrate friends' happy easily because also we feel good to hear that. That is because we are friends. There is no jealousy, sadness, but happiness. 2. If you feel something like affection to him or even more you love him, you cannot be happy and might be disappointed at the situation where he falls in love with other girl. Love and sadness, Love and jealousy are close, which means if you feel some complicated emotion except happiness with his story, the you are falling in love. 1. If you are just friends, you can feel 100% comfortable when you are with him. Though you might feel comfortable when you are with your boyfriend too, truly friend makes you feel so every time. you can meet him without make-up, showering or nervousness. That is friends. 2. If you fall in love with him, you always care about everything, specifically, how you looked or what to say. You might think you are stupid because you pay attention to your figure, speech and behavior more than before you were just friends. You get to feel nervous when meeting hime, so it means you cannot be comfortable any more. <What you do together> 1. If you are friends, you don't care about your looks well, which means you can see him with sweatsuit. It actually shows that you feel 100% comfortable without showing you beautiful. Also, you don't expect any romantic situation, so you can show your casual style. 2. If you have special feeling to him, you might care about your looks more than before because of him. Spending much time seeking good clothes, checking your face or make up in mirrors many times before seeing him indicates you love him. Those behavior means that you wonder if he sees you romantically. <Fiding out the truth> 1. If you are just friends, there is no need to confirm 'this is friendship' each other. Friends are just friends, so you don't have to say anything about the status of the relationship, otherwise he might think you have some feeling toward him. Interestingly, one survey shows that in a guy-girl friendship, guys are more likely to think that girls may love him even if they don't. 2. If you in love, it is important to think seriously before you will go further in relationship. There is some risks to change the relationship from friend to love. You can say 'I love you' or 'I think we are in love' after you consider the relationship and the potential of dating. Without it, you cannot mention the status. These points are interesting to think the differences between love and friendship. If you have a experience of turining frienship into love, you might understand what this website says easily. Personally, I see the second example the most because everytime I feel nervous when I see the guy. Love is so complicated that sometimes we cannot notice thise is 'love', and actually, it is said that recent young generations are reluctant to dating but just being friends. I heard only 3 out of 10 people have the significant other among university students. This number is so low when thinking of the situation in the past. I guess this is somewhat connected with the present Japanese late-marriage or non-marriage. So, I decided that I will focus on it and think the reasons why people today don't date and marry. RQ
- What is the history of 'Love'? - Has the situation changed now to compared with the past? →Is there any generation gap? DQ - How can we tell love from friendship? - Do you think there is friendship between a boy and a girl? Reference http://m.wikihow.com/Differentiate-Between-Love-and-Friendship# No author, No date, 'How to Differentiate Between Love and Friendship', Wiki How, viewed on 9th December 2014 From this week, we will have another new project! This time, I decided to 'reseach' or rather 'survey' about 'LOVE', especially for the opposite sex. What made me to choose this interesting topic is suggestion from my friend (actully it was not suggestion, though). 'LOVE' is really wonderful, interesting, mysterious and so on. Actually, there were no chance to consider about it so far, which means it is always abstruct for me. Therefore, his suggestion was attractive. Although 'LOVE' is attractive tipic, reserching on it is hard for me because I am not a scholar. Then I will summarize my opinion, other's, professors', or something like that to make my project well. In this project, I will focus on ; - What is 'LOVE'? - What is the difference between love and marriage? - Why don't present people date or get married? - How do we fall in love? - some tools for love (SNS etc...) This week as the first week, let's think of the figure of 'LOVE'. To begin with, let me show you my own definition of love. For me, love is what makes me happy, angry, sad and fun. It is very hard to express it briefly, which means it is so complicated. It is a kind of exhausting to fall in love because our emotions are out of control sometimes. However, that is its characteristic. Entirely, I feel love is wonderful even if often being sad due to love. It is such a curious and mysterious feeling for me. The definitions of 'LOVE' ,of course, differ from each people. I asked theree of my friends 'What is love for you?' There are interestigly different types of answers. 1) My friend A, who is a girl told me that love is unfamiliar with her. Actually, she has never experienced falling in love, so she might feel so. When I asked her about this question, she was a little plagued and finally answered so. I guess this question is strange for everyone, but especially for people like her. Therefore, her answer, love is not familiar with her is perfect because she doesn't know well about love. 2) My friend B, who is also a girl answered love is 'secret intention'. This answer is not her original but she heard so. Recently, she found the good guy, but not fall in love yet. Then, she often asks me about love, like, 'what is dating?' She might not be familiar with love, but her answer made me feel interested more. Some people say that underline of love and friendship is decided by our feeling that we want to kiss with that guy or something like that. This is one of 'secret intention'. That might be why she is upset facing with that borderline. 3) My friend C, who is aboy said very interesting answer. For him, love is 'patient', because he has a favorite girl and he always tries to attract her atention but he have hard time so far. Personally, I agree with him in terms of that we have to endure something when falling in love. This is related to our emotions ; sad and angry. It is hard to endure, but one of the most important thing is being patient. These 3 answeres are just their own thinking, so there are no 'perfect' answeres for everyone. Their different opinions are interesting respectively with their various conditions. There are some researchers who study love deeoly, but my amateur friends' thinkings are also worth knowing. Lastly, I will introduce one of love song, which is nowaday popular amond women in their twenties or thirties. The song is 'Happiness' sung by Che'Nelle, who is from Australia but is famous in Japan especially. One of the reasons why this song became famous is the lyric strikes a chord with women. Many women say this song expresses love, so it is getting popular more and more. I want you to listen to this song with feeling of love. This song tells us such us 'Love is Happiness. If you feel you want to be with the person, save the person or feel the person is the most important, it is love.' I'm sure you know that song because this is main theme song of the drama 'Dear Sister', which is broadcasted on evry Thursday on Fuji TV. Anyway, I hope you will like it. Next week, I will focus on the difference between dating and marriage. RQ

K, 24th November 2014, '<シェネル>ドラマ「ディア。シスター」の主題歌を書き下ろし 「愛とはハピネスだと知ってほしい」' Yahoo News, viewed on 2nd December 2014 Here is my final draft which I corrected with my friends' advice. Last week, I introduced Japanese slum in Osaka, which was a kind of shocking news for us. While researching on the slum, I got interested in Japanese policy toward homeless people like how can the government try to decrease the number of homeless people. Then I found one law about homeless people. This law is called 'the act of peculiar measure for helping homeless people', which I don't know how to translate it into Japanese but Japanese name is 'ホームレスの自立の支援等に関する特別措置法.' From this name, we can image that Japanese government will do something concrete policy to help poor people, but I read it briefly, it doesn't say such things but say like "The government will make efforts for homeless, people, so please agree with us.' This is not a concrete and clear law to solve Japanese poverty. This law says ; 1. The word 'Homeless people' means people who live roads, parks around stations and so on illegally. ( definition of homeless people) 2. To make policy for homeless people is the government's responsibility. 3. The aims of this law is to make homeless people self-sufficient by supporting them with giving jobs, money or house. (These are just aims but not concrete policy) This law is remarkable in terms of the definition of 'homeless.' There are a lot of groups to support homeless people, and some groups say that they regard people who don't have regular place to live (except net-coffee or friend's house) as 'homeless' as well. The definition of 'homeless' differs from each groups, but the government defines it under law, so that is one of points. Other point is that this law is limited, which means this law was active by 2012 and after that, government decided to postpone the term but it is still limited by 2017. There is limitation and its content is not concrete, so it is obvious that this law is not good way to solve Japanese poverty. Of course this is one of the government's policy, so there might be other actions. For example, it does money support for poor family, or many volunteer groups provide homeless people food for free, but it is not enough. Then, I researched what kind of supports there are , and I found interesting article about one of job support ; clean-up in Fukushima (click here to see the original article). I feel we should know this situation when we think about homeless problems or systems of job supporting. <Summary> It seems the job of cleaning up radioactive waste in Fukushima is the worst one in Japan. It is so risky that no one is willing to working there, but some homeless people work there because ; 1. they really want jobs even if they are risky 2. some homeless are housed by gangsters and gangsters take homeless people to such places 3. homeless people do anything to make money 4. some people try to recruit poor people Due to those reasons, many homeless are hired and work there, but there are problems. 1. They are 'weak', so if their employers decides not to give enough pay to homeless people, the poor cannot receive sufficient money. Actually, many of them can get very little wage. 2. They might be controlled by gangsters. = This kind of recruits is deeply connected with gangsters because the law regulating clean-up is loose. It is clear that homeless people are used and the government have no interest in them because officials wants anyone who can be clean-up men of radioactive waste. <Opinion> Everyone knows somebody have to clean up Fukushima, but they don't want to do it by themselves because of radioactivity and wish other people will do it. Therefore, this kind of situation is occurred but it seems no one cares about it or even they don't know the reality. I feel Japanese media don't try to cover this reality because this is connected with gangsters and the government to some extent, so it is unfavorable truth. On the other hand, foreign medias reported it many times, so this is well know reality, so I could know it. I want to say I cannot forgive Japanese government due to treating homeless people as 'weak people' which means people who do anything, but I cannot criticize the government so strongly because we are same. We have ignored the reality of Fukushima, so homeless people work instead of us. This is really complicated issue, but the government must change the treatment of the homeless because only they can have authority. RQ Q. What other countries people think about Japanese this kind of situation? Q. Why don't Japanese medea cover this news? DQ Q. Do you think it cannot be helped that homeless people are hired and work at Fukushima ? Why or Why not? Q. How can we prevent homeless people or weak people from treating badly? Reference
